Our History
Our story begins in the early 1980’s in the basement of a bar on Long Island. Called the Hi Ho Doorbell Company in those days, we manufactured digital doorbells that played music and other interesting sounds. By 1988 the company had changed its name to Clever Devices and began focusing on developing the audio sounds used in some of the most popular arcade games of the time.
Then, in 1990 with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the company began to focus primarily on the transit industry. Our first product automated the announcements bus drivers were required to make at each stop.
In July 2026, we were acquired by Hitachi Rail and became Hitachi Mobility Multimodal Solutions. Today, we are a growing company with over 600 employees in 12 locations in the United States, Canada, Brazil and Italy. We count among our customers some of the largest transit agencies in the world and we pride ourselves on our cutting-edge portfolio of solutions that help transit agencies work smarter, safer and more efficiently.
